My first Game Jam
I was going to blog about UNSW Heroes programme and I promise I have a draft saved that I may or may not publish. But here I am at the Global Game Jam (GGJ)- hence I am blogging about it.
When did I decide to attend the GGJ? About two days back. How did I get the motivation? Long story. Here it is-
I met someone at an IxDA Sydney meet up. At that point in December, I was sure that I wanted to pursue a career in game design. They connected me with someone who is involved in the game dev. scene in Sydney. I contacted them, and they asked me to join the IGDA group on Facebook. Someone on that group asks me to go attend the GGJ. So here I am, attending the GGJ.
The theme that they announced is “Home”. I had no team since I had only met some of them at Beer and Pixels event but ended up with no team anyways. Amongst the team-less people at GGJ, five of us- 4 developers and one artist (me) formed a team. We spent the first few hours coming up with several ideas.
We’re now working on this idea of home being a place where you are nurtured, grow (insert synonyms). And there’s the name for our game- “Nurture”. My excitement is (amongst other things) fuelled by the fact that we went ahead with my idea. Yay!
Nurture is a Zen game where you water the plant and look after it to make it grow. If not, it wilts, and you start over again. It’s a simple idea because we didn’t want to work on something complex in the 48-hour timeframe. Also, we think it’s unique and not many people are likely to work on something similar.
Here are some concepts for the game (I’ll post an update soon though, with a link to the actual game)-
P.S: I had my third Long Black for the day. I feel weird.
