The Startup
TLDR: Doing the Founders Start programme at MCIC. My team and well-wishers are awesome. Going to EduTECH today!
After winning the MCIC Hackathon we unanimously decided to take the idea forward and make a startup out of it. We started the Coach and Connect programme at MCIC and had a couple of meetings with Phil, who has spent several years working on startups.
Work was slow and motivation wasn’t running high so we were all working at a slack, chilling. But then Anna- one of my enthusiastic co-founder suggested that we enrol for the Founders Start programme, I got excited all over again. The programme has an application process and we had our fingers crossed. Then a couple of weeks back we got a positive response and we started the Founders Start programme this week. It is going to be a term-long programme and we hope to take this project to the next level and hopefully be a part of their 10X Accelerator programme.
My teammates and I have been going around talking to people. Cameron, Anatoli and others have been really helpful during this period, pointing us in the right direction and suggesting several books to read. At the moment, I am reading ‘Zero to One’ by Blake Masters and Peter Thiel. This was suggested to me long back by a dear school friend (hi Mihir!). It’s been pretty informative and encouraging so I am happy about that. ‘Linchpin’ by Seth Godin and ‘Blitzscaling’ by Chris Yeh and Reid Hoffman are next on the list. I never read such books before, but I am enjoying them.
My enthusiasm to do more in the UX field has grown exponentially in the last few weeks. My goal of becoming a Technical Artist has taken a backseat for now. I want to do more in the education sector as our startup is about improving the Lecture Experience for the students. I hope to have a chat with several others at UNSW who work in this area, including some professors and lecturers.
I’ll be going to the EduTECH Expo today to see what tech is out there.
(I know its been a while, again. But I just kept finding excuses. Hope that doesn’t happen in the future!)
